I Found The Time To Do The Second One. Here’s ‘Feel Your Eyes’.

Editing the first video took a lot longer than I expected, so thank you for your patience while this one came together.

I should admit that one of my long-term tech helpers put in hundreds of hours, and then my brother-in-law did the same – so massive thanks to them. (Despite being up to speed with music technology, this web stuff and video is not my fun place!)
But, finally, here it is - the second video in the series, and the track I chose to do second for a good reason.

Feel Your Eyes is one of the biggest fan favourites in the whole catalogue. I know how many of you love this track, so it felt right to make it the second one.
I wrote it in my early twenties - earlier, in fact, than most of what ended up on This Is Your Life. It sat around for years in different forms before I properly revisited it.

The lyrics are a bit corny if I'm honest, and I won't pretend otherwise - they came from a fairly hazy period of late nights and questionable decisions, the kind most of us went through at that age. I'll leave it there.

The version that ended up on Teaser Trailer was recorded properly around 2003, during the period when a couple of major labels - Island and EMI - were both showing interest in what I was doing. That meant I occasionally got access to studios and gear I couldn't otherwise have dreamed of.

One of those sessions was at The Fallout Shelter - a studio inside the old Island Records building. It doesn't exist anymore; the building is now office space, but they’ve named it after the original purpose - Island Studios. It felt like a very special place, and I do like to think that a little bit of the history that lives within its walls gets passed on when you get the chance to record there. I think most of Exodus by Bob Marley was done there, Cat Stevens’ classic stuff, some early U2. Plus a very long list!

Steve Winwood's Hammond organ happened to be sitting in that studio at the time, and it ended up on the recording - not played by him sadly, I just ‘borrowed’ it for the session, which felt like a small piece of magic at the time.

That week long original session is some of what you still hear on Teaser Trailer today. I don't have the original multitrack recordings for most of the stuff recorded that week anymore. In the case of Feel Your Eyes, I just have the final mixed version that made it onto CD - so the song has stayed exactly as it was captured back then.

It never made it onto This Is Your Life. By the time I was putting that album together, this one just didn't fit the shape of that record. But I've always loved it, and clearly so have a lot of you.

When it came to choosing which tracks to record in Belgium, Feel Your Eyes was an easy choice. I wanted to do it again, properly, as a solo performance - recreating a track that originally featured someone else's gear in the room, this time with just me and every instrument.

The video above is that - Feel Your Eyes, recorded live, every part played by me, in one session, exactly the same way Time Machine was https://thisisadultcinema.com/time-machine-rough-cut-live-belgium/

No overdubs added afterwards. What you're watching is how the track came together on the day.

There are two more of these still to come, both filmed the same way. I'll let you know here and on the mailing list as each one goes up.

A quick reminder for anyone newer to Adult Cinema - Feel Your Eyes is from Teaser Trailer, not This Is Your Life. Teaser Trailer is a separate album made up of outtakes and alternate versions from around the same period as my debut. It's the album most people get for free when they sign up to my mailing list, and a huge number of you go on to buy it properly on CD or vinyl afterwards. If you've never picked up a physical copy, this feels like a good moment to do that.

As with the last video, there's a 33% off offer on Teaser Trailer for the next 48 hours if you don't already have it. And if you do — thank you, genuinely, for already being one of the people who has supported this record.
