I’m busy trying to get the Kickstarter campaign finished for the vinyl of ‘This Is Your Life.
Like so many things in life, this has expanded a bit and I’m trying to make it as interesting as possible whilst basically being about getting enough people on board to make pressing vinyl a reality.
All being well, this will open on Tuesday 6th February and you can see then what I’ve got in store.
Of course, I’m putting that together whilst working pretty much full time and I’m still fiddling around with the new ACHQ. If you missed it, there’s more about the re-release of ‘This Is Your Life’ and the new ACHQ in this post from a few weeks ago.
But….whilst I was doing that I thought I really should get around to finishing up a video that I shot in the old ACHQ, probably a year ago now.
You might remember that I did a cover of Motörhead’s ‘Dead men tell no tales’ shortly after Lemmy died (RIP – what a total legend), and I said then that I’d already filmed a few covers just before moving house and kissing ACHQ Mk1 goodbye.
Anyway, these covers are a little bit different as I did them using a loop pedal which allows me to play everything live, like your favourite tousle haired ginger popster…
I do it a little differently than Ed Sheeran, although he’s made it very popular and I can’t deny he’s got great talent (just not my kind of thing).
I try and play the song I’m covering pretty much in the same way as it was recorded. Obviously I can’t play all the parts and you have to modify it to make it work as a looping version, but what I mean is that I use as close to the same instruments as I can and try and keep the feel of the song I’m covering.
If you watch the video you’ll probably see what I mean.
So, the first one I finished is this cover of ‘Whole Lotta Love’ by Led Zeppelin. I say that I finished the editing, but actually the reason this is ready is that a friend stepped in and helped me get it done as I’m rather busy with the Kickstarter stuff and the ‘This Is Your Life’ re-release!
I’m chuffed that I’m posting this one first though as it’s the first song I really mastered using a loop station and I even played it live this way at a mate’s wedding a few years ago.
That said, I was a bit rusty and although this video is all one take, I did have to have a few run-throughs until I nailed it.
I really hope you like it – and if you do, please post it all over the place and share (that’d be a great help).
I might even be persuaded to do a few more or maybe I’ll try doing it live when I finally get some Adult Cinema shows lined up. Don’t hold your breath on that though as I know there won’t be any shows until the very end of this year at the earliest. I’m mad keen to do them but I have to get all this stuff done and then finish the new album and get that out this year as well!
Thanks for taking the time to check this out. I’ll be back very soon with the Kickstarter details!
